Canada have been forced to make a late change to their traveling squad for the World Cup. Pamphinette Buisa has been ruled out of the tournament after suffering an injury while playing in the final tune-up match against Ireland last weekend. Summoned in her place is Julia Omokhuale.

It’s a cruel blow for Buisa, whose left arm was in a sling after the game in Belfast. The 28-year-old flanker had only just returned to action from a wrist injury suffered while playing on the sevens circuit. Buisa was part of Canada’s entry at the Tokyo Olympics and the 2022 World Cup hosted by New Zealand.

Omokhuale covers both lock and flanker and has suited up for Leicester Tigers during the past two Women’s Premiership seasons. She is due to join Saracens after the World Cup. The 24-year-old made her test bow against France in 2023 after starring with Canada’s u20 side, and debuted on the World Sevens Series earlier this year at Hong Kong.
