As Saturday conference championship games were unfolding, On3 college football insider Brett McMurphy was hard at work putting the bowl game puzzle pieces together.

Per McMurphy, Iowa football is confirmed for an appearance in the ReliaQuest Bowl from Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Fla., against an SEC foe. As of late Saturday evening, the Hawkeyes‘ opponent is still unclear.

McMurphy’s reporting is in line with the majority of the final Iowa bowl game projections to begin last week. Media members from USA TODAY Sports, ESPN, College Football News, Athlon Sports, and Sports Illustrated all forecast Iowa to the ReliaQuest Bowl.

Their ReliaQuest Bowl projections had Iowa squaring off against either Vanderbilt or Tennessee out of the SEC.

Formerly known as the Hall of Fame Bowl (1986-95) and the Outback Bowl (1995-2022), Iowa has made six appearances in its history to the Outback Bowl. The Hawkeyes own a 3-3 mark in those Outback Bowl appearances, featuring wins over Florida (2004), South Carolina (2009) and Mississippi State (2019).

Iowa owns an all-time mark of 18-18-1 in bowl games. Under Kirk Ferentz, the Hawkeyes are 10-11 in bowl games.
