Opponent Revealed for El Grande Americano’s AAA Debut in Mexico City

by

The masked mystery known as El Grande Americano is officially stepping into a Lucha Libre AAA ring—and now we know who he’ll be facing.

In a late-night update on Twitter, AAA revealed that El Grande will battle none other than Octagón Jr. at the Alianzas AAA TV taping in Mexico City.

“Octagón Jr. will be in charge of welcoming THE GREAT AMERICAN in MEXICO CITY,” AAA posted, confirming the match for July 25 at the Juan de la Barrera Olympic Gymnasium. This will mark El Grande Americano’s first official match under the AAA banner, as WWE continues its cross-promotional relationship with the Mexican company.

Fans have been speculating about the man behind the mask. The character first popped up on WWE programming earlier this year and hasn’t exactly been playing fair. During his July 7 match on WWE Raw, he defeated Dragon Lee with a brutal headbutt—delivered using a steel plate allegedly hidden inside his mask.

Chad Gable was the early frontrunner to be revealed as the masked man, especially after his tense standoff with AAA Mega Champion Hijo del Vikingo during AAA x WWE Worlds Collide in June. But with Gable now out with an injury, attention has shifted to Ludwig Kaiser, whose recent absence has only added fuel to the fire.

El Grande Americano showing up in AAA isn’t just a guest spot—it’s a statement. With Octagón Jr. now confirmed as his first opponent, the tension is sky-high. Whether this ends with a clean win, another cheap shot, or the mask finally coming off, one thing’s for sure—Mexico City’s about to get messy.

Is Octagón Jr. about to expose El Grande Americano, or will the masked man continue to leave destruction in his path? Drop your predictions and theories in the comments—we want to know who you think is behind the mask.
