Orange Cassidy Admits He Slept Through Recovery After Brutal Injury

by

Orange Cassidy isn’t afraid to admit he took a laid-back approach to recovering from one of the worst injuries of his wrestling career. After being sidelined with a torn pectoral muscle, the AEW star revealed that he spent much of his downtime doing absolutely nothing—and that’s just how he liked it.

While speaking to the New York Post, Cassidy opened up about the long recovery process after ripping his right pec completely off the bone during a four-way match with Ricochet, Speedball Mike Bailey, and Mark Davis. But instead of leaning into a grueling rehab mindset right away, he leaned into the couch.

“I’m also very lazy, so I would just sleep all day,” he joked when recalling the early days of his injury.

Cassidy said he was absent for some of AEW’s biggest milestones, including the All In show in Texas and the company’s expansion into Australia, which made being on the sidelines sting even more. Still, it didn’t push him off the couch immediately.

Eventually, reality set in. He began physical therapy twice a week with a local company in the Pennsylvania–New Jersey area. Even then, his approach stayed relaxed and routine.

“It’s just like anything else in life, you just gotta show up and do what you’re told and it’ll get better.”

But the physical pain was very real. Cassidy described the first month and a half post-surgery as miserable, barely able to move his arm and dealing with the gross reality of not being able to properly clean himself.

“When the surgery first happened, it was like I sat around for a month and a half. I couldn’t move my arm and stuff. It’s the first time you start to move it and you stink because you can’t take a shower and stuff.”

And for anyone thinking about toughing out a similar injury, Cassidy gave one piece of advice:

“Don’t tear your pec. It sucks.”

Orange Cassidy’s laid-back recovery might not match the traditional grind of a pro wrestler, but it’s a brutally honest look at what happens when the action stops and healing begins.
