Oregon Ducks CB Sione Laulea to enter transfer portal, miss CFP

by

The Oregon Ducks appear to be losing another reserve defensive back to the transfer portal ahead of the window officially opening up in a couple of weeks.

According to On3’s Hayes Fawcett, defensive back Sione Laulea is expected to enter the portal and find a new team, leaving the Ducks in the middle of their College Football Playoff run. Laulea, a redshirt junior, was a JUCO transfer who came to Oregon as the No. 3 JUCO player in the nation two years ago.

During his time in Eugene, Laulea played sparingly, racking up 10 tackles and one interception in 10 games.

After dealing with an injury for much of the season, Laulea returned to the field on Saturday night in the first round of the College Football Playoff against the James Madison Dukes. Standing at 6-foot-4, 190 pounds, Laulea is a rangey and lengthy defensive back who will garner a lot of attention on the open market with a high upside.

Laulea is now the fifth Oregon player to enter the portal this year, joining WR Justius Lowe, CB Jahlil Florence, CB Dakoda Fields, and S Solomon Davis.
