In the first two weeks of the college football season, Oregon has put up back-to-back dominant performances. In Week 2, the Ducks beat Oklahoma State with a final score of 69-3.

In the game, head coach Dan Lanning gave plenty of opportunities to the entire program, but backup quarterback Austin Novosad was unable to play in the Week 2 contest as he continues to recover from an injury.
On Monday night, Dan Lanning gave an update on the redshirt sophomore while looking towards their matchup against Northwestern in Week 3.

Lanning on QB Austin Novosad: ‘More precautionary, probably than anything’
Austin Novosad is in his third year at Oregon, but the start of the 2025 season hasn’t gone as planned. The redshirt sophomore saw limited action in the Ducks’ Week 1 win over Montana State, completing 1-of-2 passes for 40 yards, before suffering an injury that kept him out of Week 2.

Head coach Dan Lanning revealed some details on the quarterback’s setback heading into their preparation for Week 3’s game against Northwestern.
“Yeah, more precautionary, probably than anything. I think Austin can go, but his lat (latissimus dorsi) has been bothering him a little bit. He’s been able to practice, but we’re just trying to limit it, limit him, and get him in a position where he’d be able to go again,” Lanning said, according to Zachary Neel of Ducks Wire.
Novosad is expected to serve as Oregon’s No. 2 quarterback behind fellow redshirt sophomore Dante Moore. Through two games, Moore has shown no signs of struggle, throwing for 479 yards and six touchdowns, while adding 29 rushing yards.
