Original Plans for WWE Women’s Intercontinental Title Tournament Revealed

by

Lyra Valkyria won the Women’s Intercontinental Title on the January 13th edition of Raw after beating Dakota Kai. The path to the title was full of unpredictable changes and now it appears that WWE ended up changing plans for the tournament.

As revealed by a behind-the-scenes photo from the upcoming WWE Unreal docuseries, Alba Fyre was supposed to advance in the tournament. It is to be noted that IYO SKY only got into the tournament after replacing Kairi Sane, who was injured. IYO SKY then defeated Alba Fyre and Natalya to reach the semi-finals.

An internal bracket shared by Triple H during the docuseries shows Lyra Valkyria was actually meant to face Alba Fyre in the semi-finals. This means the original plan likely had Alba Fyre beating IYO SKY and Natalya to move on and then face Lyra Valkyria, instead of IYO SKY.

The actual tournament saw Lyra beat IYO SKY in the semi-finals, while Dakota Kai beat Zoey Stark. Then as noted above, Valkyria beat Kai to become the new champion but it’s not really known why WWE decided to change the original plans for the tournament in the first place. Regardless, what’s done is done and Alba Fyre is currently doing well on SmackDown, so fans feel it all turned out for the best.

What do you think about WWE’s original plan to push Alba Fyre in the tournament? Sound off in the comments.
