Paddy Pimblett backs ‘perfect’ plan to beat Justin Gaethje at UFC 324 – “I’ll keep it on the feet”

Paddy Pimblett is confident he’ll get the win by beating Justin Gaethje at his own game on January 24.

Their fight will headline UFC 324, with the interim lightweight title up for grabs.

Justin Gaethje is a well-known knockout artist who can end a fight with a single punch. Pimblett, on the other hand, relies more on his BJJ skills but has developed a reputation for keeping his chin high when trading shots.

Gaethje, however, isn’t buying into it. When asked if he feels threatened by Pimblett’s skills inside the Octagon, he replied: “No.”

Most expect Paddy Pimblett’s best chance of beating Justin Gaethje is by taking the fight to the ground. Even so, ‘The Baddy’ says he plans to stay on his feet and strike when they meet at T-Mobile Arena.

Speaking to TNT Sports, Pimblett said: “I’ll keep it on the feet with him. There’s the blueprint there to beat him, Max [Holloway] done it.”

“Everyone underestimates my striking. Everyone thinks I’m just going to come in and I’m going to take him down, and I’m not.

“He had an absolute war with [Michael] Chandler, and I pieced Chandler up. “So, I know MMA math doesn’t work, but you’ll see come January 24, when we have a perfect game plan, and we finish him within three.”

Amanda Nunes: ‘I was meant to come back’

Amanda Nunes announced her retirement following a five-round decision win over Irene Aldana at UFC 289 in June 2023.

It took about a year away from the sport before she began considering a return to fighting.

When Kayla Harrison signed with the UFC, Nunes felt it was the right time to step back into MMA, believing everything had lined up perfectly for her comeback.

“Everything was so crazy. I retired and had a second baby. All these things. I had so much going on and I decided to retire, and she wasn’t even in the UFC yet,” Nunes told UFC on Paramount+.

“One year passed by, and I was kind of looking at (my wife) Nina around the house like, ‘Nina, I cannot stay away. I can’t. I tried so hard for one year.’

“When those thoughts started to be more strong, Kayla signed with the UFC. It was like, ‘This is just meant to be.’ So everything came together.”

Nunes will look to win back her old belt from Harrison when they clash in the UFC 324 co-main event.
