Penn State to experience ‘Black Out’ theme at Ohio State in November: Newsstand

by

Penn State news, notes, and updates for Aug. 6 include the game theme at Ohio State when the Lions come to town, the top stories from around ‘Nittany Nation,’ and more. The Buckeyes announced a new initiative that is described as ‘reimagining the entire gameday experience at Ohio Stadium.’ It includes many things that you can read about in full at our sister site, Lettermen Row. But, the one that pertains to Penn State fans has OSU calling for a ‘Black Out’ when the Lions visit The Horseshoe in November.

It’s one of three games that the program is asking fans to wear a certain color. All black is requested for PSU-OSU. The team will also have a ‘Helmet Stripe’ game in September when Ohio comes to Columbus. And, a ‘Scarlet Out’ will be in effect for the Buckeyes’ matchup with Texas in Week 1.

“It felt like we were missing something for people to grab onto,” Ohio State athletic director Ross Bjork said when asked about the new plan, per Eleven Warriors. “We can’t predict game time [and] we can’t control it. We can give input, but the times are the times. … If it’s a noon game, 3:30 or 7:30, it shouldn’t matter. Here’s the platform, here’s the tradition.”

In other news, Penn State was back on the practice field Tuesday night. Big Ten Network was on hand for the evening and aired an hour-long recap show live at midnight. If you missed it and didn’t set your DVR, it will be back on the air at 9 a.m. ET today and at various other times over the next two days. Check your TV guide for the latest scheduling info.
