Petra Senánszky Lowers Hungarian 50 Free Record At National Championships

Petra Senánszky set a national 50 free record and 15-year-old Boróka Kertész upset her senior peers in the 200 fly on day two of the Hungarian s/c Championships in Debrecen.

Senánszky accelerated in the second half of the race and shaved 0.19 off her previous record in 24.11 to take gold ahead of Lora Komoróczy (24.57) and Panna Ugrai (24.78).

She said through the Hungarian Federation: “On Wednesday I felt that I was in good shape, as I swam a very, very good time in our mixed freestyle relay. I tried to take it further today and get the fifty out of myself, I’m happy that I succeeded.”

Ugrai was in the lead for a long time in the 200 fly, but in the end it was not Dalma Sebestyén who caught her, but the young talent of Jövő SC, Kertész, born in 2010, who practically took the lead at 198m to take gold in an age group record of 2:08.17.

“We didn’t expect a gold medal at all, my coaches and I said that I should try to swim under 2:10, it will be just fine,” said a shocked Kertész.  “It’s going to be very hard to fall asleep tonight, that’s for sure.”

Szebasztián Szabó won the men’s 50 free in 21.22, Ádám Jászó added the 100 back to his 50 title (50.74) and Dávid Betlehem took the 400 free in 3:41.78, a day after his rankings topper in the 1500. Richárd Márton took the men’s 200 fly in 1:52.18.

Komoróczy also completed the 50/100 back double with a 58.58 victory in the longer race while Ajna Kesely matched Betlehem’s feat with 400 gold in 4:05.35.
