While we are still roughly three months away for the 2026 Early Signing Day, on Monday LSU got to work filling out its 2027 class.
Four-star quarterback Peyton βPopβ Houston up at Evangel Christian Academy announced today that he would be committing to LSU. The four-star chose LSU over the likes of Oklahoma, USC, Texas and Clemson.
The class of 2027 is shaping up to be an unusually good year for Louisiana in terms of quarterbacks. There are three legit high school quarterbacks coming out next year in Houston, Elijah Haven (Dunham) and Malachi Ziegler (Benton). Thereβs also Garrett Nussmeierβs younger brother, Colton, in Flower Mound, Texas, so with four options at quarterback, the choice for LSU was who do you take? It looks like theyβve settled on Houston.

Last year as a sophomore, Houston threw for a Louisiana 5A record 4,480 yards and 38 touchdowns against six interceptions, all while completing 70 percent of his passes; heβs got some mobility as well, 690 yards and seven scores. Houston also made history last season when he threw for, hello, 817 yards and eight touchdowns in a 77-76 LOSS. Jayden Danielsβ 2o23 Heisman season has nothing on that.
Houstonβs a little on the smaller side (listed at 5β10β, 200 pounds), especially compared to Elijah Haven (6β5β, 215), and 247 says that Houston has a βcapped physical upside considering lack of height and limited hand sizeβ so I suppose thatβs something to worry about. But 247 also writes that Houston is βone of the more pure throwers in recent years and sets an exceptionally high floorβ and that he is a βpassing drill king: everything is intentional, on schedule, on target, rips throws to multiple levels.β I donβt know about yβall, but I can work with that.
Houston is the first to pledge to LSUβs class of 2027, but LSU still needs to add a quarterback to its 2026 class. Right now they are trying to flip four-star quarterback Landon Duckworth, who is currently committed to South Carolina.
