Nebraska absolutely smashed an overmatched Houston Christian team 59-7, moving to 3-0 on the season.
There were a number of positives about the game.
-
Nebraska won, keeping us undefeated on the season.
-
There weren’t any injuries from the game that I remember.
-
It’s clear that Nebraska has a competent backup quarterback in T.J. Lateef.
-
A whole shit ton of people got to play, which means it less likely they’ll transfer in the portal. Although I’m not 100% true, that’s just what I’ve been told.
To be completely honest, I didn’t really enjoy this game as much as probably the rest of you because all I could think is that Nebraska should not be playing any opponent like this in the future.

The problem is that if you look at our next long conference schedule for the next three years, it’s not all that impressive. And this comes at a time at which the college football playoff committee has made it clear that strength of record or strength of schedule is going to be a determining factor of who gets into the playoff.
If you’re one of those people that think that just because Michigan played Central Michigan that Nebraska is fine playing crap opponents too, one thing I’d like to remind you is that Nebraska no longer carries the respectability we had in the past. Playing a team like Houston Christian does nothing to change that.
Playing a team like Tennessee, even with a loss, does.
For years, Nebraska was granted the benefit of the doubt. We earned it. We no longer have that, and we have to get it back. And the only way you do that is by playing good opponents and winning those games. And if you really truly believe in your program, that’s what you should be doing. Not playing overmatched FCS schools.

It’s a win.
Nebraska is 3-0 on this season. Up next, Michigan. And now the real fun begins.
