Preview: Archery makes debut at continental Para Youth Games in Istanbul

by

Youth para archers from across Europe are assembling in Istanbul for the European Para Youth Games (EPYG), a multisport event for para athletes aged between 12 and 23 from the member countries of the European Paralympic Committee.

It’s the seventh edition of the biennal event, and para archery has been included on the programme for the first time, alongside boccia, goalball, judo, swimming, taekwondo and table tennis.

It’s part of an expansion of archery into other youth para multisport Games around the world in 2025. Para archery will also be part of the Para Pan American Junior Games in Santiago de Chile in October and November, as well as the Asia Para Youth Games in Dubai in December.

Here in Istanbul, a total of 26 archers from seven countries will be competing in individual competition across three categories, with the largest delegation from Italy. Several archers are competing in more than one category.

Archers are not split by gender, only bowstyle, with both men & women competing together in recurve, compound & W1.
