Brief Thoughts

Casey has the in-depth preview here.

I don’t have much, honestly. This is a “get right” game for Purdue, and the Boilermakers need to get right. Purdue should overwhelm the smaller Gophers in the paint and then punish them from outside once the defense starts to collapse. It wouldn’t shock me for Fletcher Loyer to go off in this one; he doesn’t usually play two bad games in a row. I’d like to see Braden and TKR work on the pick-and-roll, because for the first time in a long time, it got totally shut down by Iowa State.

Everything Purdue does is built on Braden and TKR being the best P&R combo in college basketball. The Cyclones decided to focus on shutting down TKR on the pick-and-roll and challenged Braden to beat them by scoring. Instead of scoring, Braden tried to beat Iowa State by passing to his role players, and we all saw what happened. I need to see the most unguardable play in college basketball back up and running at full capacity tonight.

It’s a “wrong time, wrong place” type of situation for the Gophers. I guarantee Matt Painter had the Boilermakers’ full attention in practice this week. Fletch goes off early, the pick-and-roll dominates the game throughout, and the Boilermakers cruise to victory in the second half.
