Purdue Women’s Swimming Tops Illinois behind Abby Marcukaitis

The Purdue women’s swimming and diving team defeated Illinois in a Big Ten dual meet on Saturday, Jan. 10, at home.

The Boilermakers won the meet 194-101.

The Boilermakers started with a win in the 200 medley relay as Abby Marcukaitis, Meghan Sharma, Lara Phipps and Hannah Hill got to the wall in 1:39.12.

Marcukaitis won the 100 backstroke in 53.62 and 200 back (1:55.70). Sharma won the 100 breaststroke in 1:01.99. Hill won the 50 free in 22.91. Phipps won the 100 free in 49.75, going 1-2 with Hill (50.92) and also the 100 fly (54.59), edging Illinois’ Chloe Diner (54.79).

Purdue’s Reagan Mattice won the 1000 free in 9:56.29 and 500 free (4:51.82). Caitlin Hurley won the 200 free in 1:48.95. Campbell Schofield won the 200 fly (1:59.42).

Hurley, Phipps, Adele Sands and Hill won the 400 free relay (3:21.46).

In diving, Daryn Wright won the 3-meter competition for the Boilermakers with a score of 374.48. She also won the 1-meter competition with a score of 336.45.

Illinois got a win in the 200 breaststroke with Sara Jass getting to the wall in 2:13.05. Jass also won the 200 IM in 2:00.70, just ahead of Diner (2:00.98).
