When Alex Golesh left USF on Sunday to become Auburn’s new head football coach, one of the biggest questions was which players might follow him to the SEC. Just a few days later, that question has its first clear answer.
Tampa (Fla.) Armwood quarterback Rhys Brush, who committed to USF back in February, has flipped his commitment to Auburn, reuniting with the coach he believed in him from the beginning.

Brush, a 6-foot-2, 175-pound signal-caller, broke down why Golesh was the driving force behind his decision.
“What makes Coach Golesh special is that he truly and deeply cares about his staff and players,” Brush told Rivals. “He brings energy and juice every day to whatever he is doing. At the end of the day, he is the ultimate players’ coach. He’s the guy you want to fight for and win for.”
Brush said the transition from USF to Auburn didn’t come with uncertainty, because Golesh made his intentions clear almost immediately.
“Coach Golesh let me know the night he got up there that I was his guy and that he wanted me to come along with him. It meant a lot because it’s a crazy world out there, and it shows you how loyal he is.”

The big stage at Auburn excites Brush
Though Brush hasn’t visited Auburn yet, he already has a sense of the program and its history. He has some friends who graduated from Auburn, so he knows about some of the traditions and successes they have had over the years.
Now he will now enter one of the biggest stages in college football, and that is something he doesn’t take lightly.
“I can’t even put into words how excited I am to be playing on the biggest stage,” he said. “I get to play for the coach who has been by my side and always believed in me throughout this whole recruiting process too. I’m beyond excited to represent Coach Golesh and the staff. It has always been a dream of mine, and it just feels surreal.”
Brush closed with a message Auburn fans will love:
“War Eagle!”
