Quarry Quintessential: College football Week 2 odds, picks, predictions, more

by

Our apologies, Florida State, we weren’t familiar with your game.

The first week of the college football season is always a treat and this year was no different. Some teams were exactly who we thought they were (Sorry UCLA) and others played spoiler (Hey Seminoles!). All things considered, it made for a compelling first week of action.

Week 2 features some compelling matchups in its own right. Here’s how we think it’ll go down, odds via FanDuel Sportsbook:

Illinois (-2.5) at Duke

  • LC’s Picks: I think this one is gonna be pretty good and Duke has a shot to pull off the upset. Gimme the Blue Devils here, they’ve beaten playoff hopefuls before.

  • Colin’s Picks: Illinois covers and that’s good for Indiana fans cause it keeps Illinois in the top 25.

Baylor (+2.5) at SMU

  • LC’s Picks: I don’t really think Baylor turned in an inspired performance in Week 1 against an Auburn team I’m not all that high on. I have a good amount of faith in Rhett Lashlee though. Mustangs win and cover.

  • Colin’s Picks: Mustangs win and cover.

Iowa (+2.5) at Iowa State

  • LC’s Picks: Kirk Ferentz is on the doorstep of becoming the Big Ten’s all-time winningest head coach, tying Woody Hayes with last week’s win over Albany. Last year’s CyHawk game featured a late surge from Iowa State to emerge victorious and I think Iowa will be even more motivated as a result. Hawkeyes take this and cover.

  • Colin’s Picks: Cyclones win and cover. Izzo had the Big Ten wins record on his plate and lost to a rival. Kirk, who couldn’t fire his son, can’t overcome this.

Michigan (+5.5) at Oklahoma

  • LC’s Picks: I think this Michigan team can turn into something over the course of the season, but Oklahoma is just too early of a matchup for me to have that much faith in the Wolverines. Oklahoma wins but doesn’t cover.

  • Colin’s Picks: Man this reeks to me of the Clemson LSU game where I feel forced to pick. Michigan to cover because they have proven exceptional in self-pity since Harbaugh was suspended.

Kansas (+6.5) at Missouri

  • LC’s Picks: Missouri’s great and will probably win. But something in the back of my mind is making me think Kansas pulls this off. Jayhawks take it.

  • Colin’s Picks: Jayhawks cover, sadly.
