Red Sox manager Alex Cora enjoyed MLB All-Star Break by attending viral Coldplay concert

Boston Red Sox manager Alex Cora was home during this past week’s MLB All-Star Break and got away from baseball to enjoy some music. Little did he know that the concert he would attend delivered one of the most viral moments of the year.

That’s right, Cora and his group of friends were at Gillette Stadium on Wednesday night for the infamous Coldplay concert where Astronomer CEO Andy Byron was caught on a screen embracing HR head Kristin Cabot, which led lead singer Chris Martin to quip, “Either they’re having an affair or they’re just very shy.”

The reaction from Byron and Cabot led to the clip going viral and speculation bubbled up about the pair’s relationship status.

Cora revealed on Friday ahead of the Red Sox resuming the season against the Chicago Cubs that he was at Gillette Stadium on Wednesday.

“It was good,” Cora said while laughing. “I was actually in the Wednesday [Coldplay] concert. It was fun.”

Cora told WEEI last week that he had made plans with friends to attend the concert while watching a Coldplay show on YouTube in December.

In the wake of the negative publicity, Astronomer released a statement on Friday afternoon stating the company’s leaders are “expected to set the standard in both conduct and accountability” and that the Board of Directors has begun an investigation in the matter.

The Red Sox are hoping they’re not tired and underprepared against the Cubs beginning on Friday. Following their series in Chicago they will head to Philadelphia for three-game set. Once they wrap up with the Phillies, the lights will guide them back home to Boston next weekend to meet the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Currently sporting a 53-45 record, the Red Sox sit three games behind the Toronto Blue Jays for the AL East lead. They’re hoping to feel the fear in their enemy’s eyes and end a three-year playoff drought with a strong second half.

Nobody said making the postseason was easy after all.
