With the D-backs officially eliminated from the playoffs on Friday, the final NL Wild Card spot will come down to two teams: the Reds and Mets.
Here’s where things stand entering Saturday’s games. With a Reds win and Mets loss on Friday night, the clubs are tied with an 82-78 record, but with Cincinnati winning the season series vs. New York (4-2 record), the Reds hold the pivotal tiebreaker advantage. If the two clubs end the season with the same record, the Reds would secure the third Wild Card spot.
These are the different scenarios where the Reds or Mets could clinch a playoff berth, which could come as soon as Saturday for Cincinnati.
Obviously, the Reds securing the tiebreaker advantage has made their clinch scenario much easier in the final days. In terms of matchups for the rest of the weekend, the Reds will send 2025 All-Star Andrew Abbott to the mound on Saturday against Milwaukee’s Robert Gasser. On Sunday, Brady Singer will toe the rubber for Cincinnati against Brewers ace Freddy Peralta.
For the Mets, Clay Holmes will face the Marlins’ Eury Pérez on Saturday, while New York hasn’t announced its starter on Sunday vs. Miami’s Edward Cabrera.
