According to NBA insider Jake Fischer, the Celtics are one of many teams to check in on Sacramento Kings guard Keon Ellis.
Ellis is widely expected to be traded by the Kings before Thursday’s trade deadline and Boston’s interest is curious because they’ve been mostly linked to front court players heading towards February 5th.
Ellis has had a down season this year, averaging 5.6 points, 1.3 rebounds and 0.6 assists per game while shooting 40% from the field and 37% from three. Last season, he averaged 8.3 points, 2.7 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game while shooting 49% from the field and 43% from three.
While his $2.3 million salary makes him easy to trade for, his expiring contract makes it tricky. Ellis is going to be an unrestricted free agent this summer so the acquiring team will need to be prepared to either sign him long-term or rent him for the remainer of this year.
