“Assassin Baby” isn’t wasting any time.

Former two-time Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Flyweight champion Brandon Moreno is set to return at UFC Mexico on Sat., Feb. 28, 2025, taking on No. 7-ranked Asu Almabayev inside Arena CDMX in Mexico City. VestnikMMA was first to report the matchup.

It’s unclear whether this will headline the card, but given Moreno’s star power — and the fact he headlined last year’s UFC Mexico event — there’s a strong chance he ends up on top of the bill.

Moreno (23-9-2) hoped to make one more push toward UFC gold, but things unraveled at UFC 323. The Mexican fan favorite suffered a second-round TKO loss to surging 125-pound contender Tatsuro Taira, snapping a two-fight winning streak that included victories over Amir Albazi and Steve Erceg.

As for Almabayev (23-3), 2025 started rough. He suffered his first UFC defeat when Manel Kape stopped him in March (watch highlights). Since then, the Kazakh standout has rebounded nicely with back-to-back wins — a dominant performance against Jose Ochoa at UFC Abu Dhabi and a gritty, come-from-behind submission over Alex Perez at UFC Qatar.
