Holger Rune is currently absent from the ATP tour due to his frightening Achilles tendon injury.
The young Danish ace was giving his best to qualify for the Nitto ATP Finals in Turin late last year, but suffered a very bad injury during the Stockholm ATP 250 semifinal against Ugo Humbert.
Everyone immediately understood that it was a particularly serious injury and the diagnosis confirmed the worst fear, before Rune underwent a delicate surgery.
Krajicek talks about Rune
The former world number 4 is facing the long rehabilitation with the right spirit and has started working hard since day one, despite several experts and players advising him not to overdo it to avoid relapses.
There is no exact date for his return to the tour yet, but it is likely that he will have to miss almost all of this season. His mother Aneke had stated that he would like to see her son in action within six months, but an injury of this type usually takes nine months to a year to be completely resolved. As several coaches and analysts have suggested, this bad blow will be useful for Holger to put some order in his young career and understand what his priorities are.
In a recent interview with 'Bolavip', Richard Krajicek – former Wimbledon champion and current director of the Rotterdam ATP 500 – wanted to give some advice to the young Danish star: “I actually have one piece of advice for him, which might be the most important one. During his injury, he has to watch a lot of tennis. I know he might suffer doing it, but he has to watch a lot of videos, especially of himself, Alcaraz and Sinner.
Richard continued: "He needs to analyze what they are doing and how he can do it. This is not about technique, because he is already so technically gifted, but it is about strategy on the court. That helped me a lot mentally. I was trying to visualize myself doing what they did.”
