Oba Femi has a new #1 contender.
The August 26 episode of WWE NXT was quite an episode with the fallout after Heatwave. We also saw a new #1 contender crowned after Ricky Saints seemingly placed his stake at the end of the premium live event when he stepped up to Oba Femi.
WWE’s NXT brand kicked off the show this week with Ricky Starks claiming that he is next to face Oba Femi for the NXT Title. Then Josh Briggs came out to challenge him for that place on the roster.
A #1 contender match was then booked to see who will face Oba Femi at No Mercy. This match went down during the end of the show’s first hour. Fans were more than ready to see this go down.
The match spanned a commercial break, and both competitors earned near falls. That being said, the NXT Universe rallied behind them as well. This was a hard-hitting match as Briggs brought his heaviest shots to Saints.
In the end, Ricky Saints was able to pull off the win and become #1 contender. Now he will face Oba Femi at the end of September at No Mercy.
WWE NXT No Mercy is scheduled for Saturday, September 27, 2025, at the FTL War Memorial in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. We will have full coverage of the show here at Ringside News.
We will have to see if Oba Femi drops his title at No Mercy. He has held the title through every challenger so far, and it’s anyone’s guess what is next for The Ruler.
