MVP just dropped a major reveal about Ricochet’s AEW journey—and it involves a surprising near-alignment with the Hurt Syndicate.
Speaking on his Marking Out with MVP & Dwayne Swayze podcast, the former WWE star explained that Ricochet was originally lined up to join the powerhouse faction featuring MVP, Bobby Lashley, and Shelton Benjamin.
While longtime fans might remember that Ricochet was once in contention for a spot in WWE’s Hurt Business before Cedric Alexander filled it, MVP said they had serious plans to finally bring him into the fold—but this time in AEW.
“Because Cedric was still under contract, we were coming over, and at the time you were still negotiating, there were a lot of pieces. We’re like, ‘Okay, we’re gonna reunite and we’re gonna—Ricochet’s gonna have that spot,’ but in our business, we have the saying: card subject to change.”
According to MVP, the AEW debut angle was already in motion. They even began planting seeds in the ring to initiate Ricochet into the Hurt Syndicate with a storyline shift for his character.
“We did that spot in the ring with Bobby when he snatched you up, and that was supposed to have been like, where we start initiating Ricochet and where his character changes. He goes, and he becomes, ‘I hurt people.’”
But wrestling doesn’t always stick to the script. MVP admitted that, while he selfishly wanted Ricochet as part of the crew, things unfolded differently—and perhaps for the better.
“As things sometimes happen organically, his career path went a completely different way, and selfishly, like I wanted him in the Hurt Syndicate, but I dare say things worked out better for you as they are.”
Ironically, Ricochet recently played a pivotal role at AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door, where he cost Bobby Lashley and Shelton Benjamin the AEW World Tag Team Titles—proving he’s very much on his own path, even if it runs through his would-be allies.
Wrestling fans never forget what could’ve been, and this is one of those rare “what if” moments that nearly reshaped an entire faction’s identity. Ricochet’s solo journey continues to raise eyebrows—just not the way MVP originally envisioned.
