Ronda Rousey has a lot of rust to shake off before she fights Gina Carano in a few months, and the UFC Hall of Famer appears to be hard at work doing just that.
On Wednesday, Rousey released a 36-second clip of her in the cage with trainer AJ Matthews – a former Strikeforce, Bellator and Rizin competitor – to her 16.9 million Instagram followers. It’s the first training footage Rousey has shared since her fight with Carano was stunningly announced Feb. 17.

A two-time Olympian judoka who won bronze in 2008, Rousey, 39, relied heavily on her elite judo skills during her mixed martial arts career, often submitting opponents by armbar, with nine of her 12 career wins coming by way of her signature move. She was knocked out by superior strikers in her final two UFC title fights against Holly Holm in November 2015 and Amanda Nunes in December 2016.
With Carano’s background in muay Thai, Rousey is wise to shore up her hands – although Carano, 43, will look to shake off even more rust after not competing in MMA since an August 2009 loss to Cris Cyborg in what was, at the time, the biggest fight in women’s MMA history.
