ARLINGTON — Things could get a bit rowdy in Texas soon.
On Thursday, a day before the Rangers open the second half of the 2025 season against the Tigers, veteran infielder Rowdy Tellez participated in a workout with the club at Globe Life Field as all parties anticipate his impending call up.
The Rangers signed Tellez on July 5, just a week after he was released by the Mariners, who he played 62 games with this season. Though he hit just .208/.249/.434 with the Mariners, he did bat .275 with an .877 OPS away from T-Mobile Park.
He went 5-for-15 with a pair of homers and four RBIs in four games with Triple-A Round Rock.
Tellez is a below-average defender at first base (-5 outs above average and -5 defensive runs saved this season) with virtually zero pop against left-handed pitching, but he does have a .720 OPS this season against right-handers.
“My job is just to come here and impact the team in any way I can,” Tellez said. “Whatever [Rangers manager Bruce Bochy] asks me to do, whatever they need me to do, I’m going to come out here and give everything I got and do what I need to do. We’re in a playoff push coming out of the second half. I just want to impact the team and be able to fill any hole they need me to.
“I feel like I’m a very good clubhouse presence. I have fun, I smile. For me, it’s also just bringing a positive attitude and bringing something here. I want to impact the team positively, driving in runs and win games.”
