Ryan Held Succeeding in Post-Swimming Career; Business Insider Profiles Two-Time Olympian

According to a feature in Business Insider, two-time United States Olympian Ryan Held is off to a successful start in his post-swimming career. Held is working in New York City for Goldman Sachs, serving as a cyber risk analyst. A standout in the sprint-freestyle events during his competitive days, Held started working for the investment bank in February and focuses on cyber-security.

“My job is to help make sure the firm and our people practice good cyber hygiene,” Held told Business Insider. “The most basic examples include using complex passwords and securing your workspace.”

During his interview with Business Insider, Held confirmed he is retired from the sport at a competitive level. Still, he gets in the pool a few times per week.

A staple on the sprinting scene for a decade, Held made his first appearance at the Olympic Games in 2016 in Rio de Janeiro. In his Olympic debut, Held teamed with Michael Phelps, Caeleb Dressel and Nathan Adrian to capture the gold medal in the 400 freestyle relay. Held narrowly missed a bid to the 2020 Games in Tokyo, denied a spot due to roster limitations, but he earned a place on the 2024 Team USA squad for the Paris Games. At his second Olympics, Held picked up another gold medal in the 400 freestyle relay, thanks to his contribution during the event’s prelims.
