Ryan Lavner puzzled by Tommy Fleetwood’s repeated PGA Tour near-misses

by

Tommy Fleetwood is a golfer who tries to win one of the PGA tournaments year after year. However, it seems that the experienced golfer is having trouble making a breakthrough in his career. Fans are wondering what the main problem is, and well-known expert and analysts are also raising their voices regarding his form and his failed attempts.

One of those who reacted was Ryan Lavner.

He used the example of Cam Young, a bit confused by Fleetwood and his poor performances.

While Cam Young managed to win one of the PGA tournaments, Tommy Fleetwood is unsuccessfully trying to achieve such success.

The last tournament showed that the Englishman has the necessary quality, but he failed again at key moments, and at the same time missed the victory.

“Isn’t that confusing because last week with Cameron Young breaking through for the first time at the Wyndham Championship, he had seven runner-up finishes, that was the most on the PGA Tour [without a win] since they begun keeping those stats in 1983,” Lavner said, as quoted by The Golfing Gazette.

“But Cam Young had played well in those final round performances and just gotten beat. His final round scoring average was 67.5. The dude was lighting it up and it just wasn’t his time.

Tommy Fleetwood’s though is different. His final round performance, he has never gone out and had one really stolen from him. I think back to the US Open where he shot 63 but Brooks Koepka wasn’t going to surrender that one, not at that time. That was the closest in my opinion that Tommy Fleetwood has gotten but he didn’t play particularly well in Canada when Nick Taylor dropped that bomb on him in the playoff, certainly what happened at the Travelers Championship just a couple of months ago was not a great finish and this I don’t think was anything he would be particularly proud about either, the way that he played."

Is the future bright for him?

The experienced Englishman seemed to make the most mistakes when he least needed to.

Lavner is a bit confused by his performance, highlighting some of the moments that could have been decisive, but the popular golfer failed to take his chance.

He is still confused and frustrated by his game, stressing that perhaps the future could look different for him, but he does not seem so sure.

Whether the famous Englishman will really turn things around and finally win his first PGA Tournament, time will tell.

For now, there seems to be a certain mental barrier that is preventing him from reaching his goal.
