PHOENIX — Both Nestor Cortes and the Padres’ offense took a little time to warm up against the Diamondbacks on Wednesday.
Cortes allowed two runs in 4 2/3 innings in his first MLB start since April 3, and the Padres scored three runs in the final three innings — including two in the ninth — en route to a 3-2 win over Arizona at Chase Field on Wednesday.
Ryan O’Hearn tied the game with a leadoff home run in the top of the ninth, and Jose Iglesias put San Diego on top with a one-out RBI single. Mason Miller struck out the three to work around a walk in the bottom of the frame to earn his 21st save of the season, and his first with the Padres.
The Padres have won two straight and nine of their last 11 games, climbing within two games of the NL West lead after the Dodgers dropped the finale to the Cardinals on Wednesday.
