Ryback did not hold back one bit as he defended older wrestlers in WWE main eventing Premium Live Events, despite fans constantly criticizing the company for pushing older talent.
Ryback took to Twitter and commented on a video of Peter Rosenberg pointing out that the average age in the World Heavyweight Championship match at Clash in Paris featuring Seth Rollins, CM Punk, LA Knight, Jey Uso, and Ryback was 41.75.
Ryback said that too many people focus on age in wrestling. He explained that true drawing power and name value come from years of storylines, recognition, and building a connection with fans. Very few wrestlers gain worldwide appeal early in their careers. Instead of arguing, he suggested fans just enjoy the show, the matches and appreciate whoever is being booked as the top star right now.
“Too many people get caught up arguing about age in wrestling. The reality is drawing power and name value take years of storylines, recognition, and connection. Very few have worldwide appeal early on. Instead of complaining, enjoy the show, enjoy the matchups, and appreciate whoever is being booked as the best because that’s the best right now.”
Ryback’s defense makes it clear that age doesn’t stop a wrestler from being on top. In fact, it can make them more valuable, since years of storytelling and fan connection are what make the biggest matches feel special. So it’s clear WWE will continue to have older wrestlers in the main event spots and that’s not going to change anytime soon.
Do you agree with Ryback that age shouldn’t matter in wrestling, or do you think WWE should prioritize younger talent in main events? Please share your thoughts and feedback in the comment section below.
