Samoa Joe has finally broken his silence about his AEW status—and there’s more going on than fans may have thought.
After being stretchered out at AEW All In: Texas, many assumed Joe’s absence was simply to accommodate promotional duties for Twisted Metal season 2. But now, the former ROH World Champion is setting the record straight.
In an interview with WrestleZone, Samoa Joe revealed that he’s currently sidelined due to a real medical issue—concussion protocols—and it’s something he’s taking extremely seriously.
“You know, obviously we’re working through concussion protocols right now, which I take very seriously. Hopefully, doctors will clear me sooner than later, so we can make amends for things that maybe shouldn’t have gone on.”
Joe didn’t go into detail about what “shouldn’t have gone on,” but the comment seems to reference the brutal assault by the Death Riders that wrote him off AEW television earlier this month. That storyline injury now has a very real-world component, giving fans a better understanding of Joe’s current hiatus.
What this means for his future in AEW remains uncertain, but Joe appears ready to return as soon as doctors give the green light.
It’s now clear his time away isn’t just about Hollywood obligations. AEW’s locker room may want to keep an eye out—because when Joe gets cleared, he sounds determined to make someone pay.
