Sanju Samson suffers major health scare ahead of Asia Cup 2025

by

Indian wicketkeeper-batsman Sanju Samson has been turning on extreme grit mode ahead of the Asia Cup 2025, as he ignored viral fever and left the hospital to play in the Kerala Cricket League, only to prove his merit in the game to restore his place in the Indian playing 11.

Sanju Samson, the Kerala wicket-keeper star who has played for India in white-ball cricket, has to face uncertainty over his place in the XI due to the comeback of vice-captain Shubman Gill. Amid such scares, Samson has been hit by another massive health issue.

Currently, the batter has been spotted playing in the Kerala Cricket League (KCL) for the Kochi Blue Tigers. The wicket-keeper batter was seen on the field during their bowling innings at the Greenfield Stadium in Trivandrum.

Sanju Samson ignores ‘health woes’ to feature in KCL match

As per reports in MyKhel, Samson was at the Trivandrum Hospital on Thursday afternoon, as he went there to receive primary treatment before he left the hospital to play for the Kochi Blue Tigers directly at the Greenfield Stadium.

He is suffering from a slight fever and is unwell, while the player has also been under the weather. Though it might not be too serious, Samson still has to take precautions since he has international commitments lined up for India.

“Sanju has fever and he also has a cough. His health is currently not well and he has been resting. He was at the hospital on Friday, and now he is at home,” a person very close to Sanju Samson told MyKhel on condition of anonymity.

After the end of the match, he probably went back to the hospital again and received treatment before being discharged on Friday, and is now at his home.

Samson demotes himself down the order in the KCL, hinting towards a probable role change for India

He is part of the Indian side that has been picked for the Asia Cup 2025, though he is doubtful about restoring his place in the XI as an Indian opener, since Shubman Gill is likely to open for India alongside Abhishek Sharma.

Samson in the recent game of the KCL demoted him down the batting order; he was supposed to open but did not come into bat until no. 4, which stressed the fact that Samson might be showing his calibre down the order so that he can be India’s first-choice wicket-keeper down the order at no. 5, the only spot left vacant in India’s batting order.

He will next be seen in Kochi Blue Tigers’ second game, which will be played on Saturday, the 23rd of August. The 31-year-old Indian star was bought at a record price in the KCL auction.

Another close source who is near the cricketer confirmed to myKhel that Sanju Samson wanted to prove his dedication to the side during the KCL 2025 matches, which is the reason he came in to play on the field, despite being admitted to the hospital.

Sanju Samson was seen fielding for the entirety of the match but did not come out to bat as the Tigers chased down a moderate total of 98 runs, while Saly Samson, his elder brother, scored a stunning unbeaten half-century to take his team to a win.
