For the second time this decade, World Rugby elected a Chilean try as the best of a calendar year. Santiago Pedrero’s try for Los Cóndores against Samoa in Utah was officially determined as being the best try of the year in 2025.

The try was in the opening of two matches between Chile and Samoa. It was played in the neutral location of the USA. Pedrero’s try came with Chile hot on attack. Samoa fought back int he second-half to snatch a draw.

Game two was a home match with Chile winning to successfully qualify for Rugby World Cup 2027. The win over Samoa also meant Chile gained value places in the World Rankings; a fact which saw Chile in Band 4 and Samoa in Band 5 for the draw for Rugby World Cup 2027.

Pedrero’s Try of the Year award for 2025 follows that of Rodrigo Fernández for Chile vs the USA in the prior Rugby World Cup Qualifying cycle.
