Scotty Cameron Gets “Xperimental” With Two New Limited-Edition Putters

by

Scotty Cameron has two new Studio Xperimental limited-edition putters coming your way this Halloween. Although they have nothing to do with Halloween, their black-and-grey aesthetic does make these modified Studio Style putters visually appropriate for the spooky season.

Although the putters are devoid of ghosts and goblins, there is a bit of Frankenstein in them. Dr. Cameron has stitched together the parts of various Cameron putters into his new Studio Xperimental creation. He added a completely new element to the build as well.

Add in a pinch or two of Cameron’s flair for form to the builds, you end up with nothing even remotely monstrous.

What has Cameron created?

At their core, the two limited-edition Studio Xperimental putters are the Squareback and Fastback models from the 2025 Studio Style putter line.

Many of the key components for that putter line are present in the Studio Xperimental limited-edition putters. For example, the Studio Carbon Steel (SCS) face insert and its delightful-feeling chain-link face milling.

The Cameron crew has altered some of the stock elements for this release. The SCS insert is plated with a black-nickel finish. A dark steel gray PVD coating covers the stainless-steel parts of the putter.

The change from stock silver to the steel gray PVD mutes the contrasting lines at address a touch. However, the contrasting horizontal multi-material bands are still visible for alignment.

Two Scotty Cameron Studio Xperimental Limited models

Of the two models, the Scotty Cameron Studio Xperimental Limited Squareback 2 is closer to the stock design. As I mentioned, the overall color scheme is different and a double line on the top edge replaces the stock single line.

The aluminum sole plate is also different, depicting the Xperimental logo rather than the stock Studio Style graphic.

Not a lot has changed but it is definitely a cool-looking putter.

The Scotty Cameron Studio Xperimental Limited Fastback 2 is a little different since a Fastback 2 was not part of the stock line. This version of the Fastback has a plumber’s neck rather than the stock slant or spud-neck options.

The addition of a new neck option may not seem like much but it gives golfers an extra fitting option. As it did with the release of the Phantom 5.2 and Phantom 7.2 models, the plumber’s neck provides an intermediate amount of toe hang. The Scotty Cameron Studio Xperimental Limited Fastback 2 will also be available in a left-handed configuration.

The most interesting Xperiment is the shaft

While I think both of the heads are attractive designs, it was the new graphite shaft that really caught my attention.

Graphite putter shafts are increasing in popularity. It stands to reason that the Cameron team would eventually release their spin on the graphite shaft.

Unfortunately, I don’t have a ton of information about the new graphite shaft. Cameron says it is slightly counterbalanced and is expected to improve stability and feedback.

Hopefully, this release is just a teaser for what will be coming from Cameron in 2026. Fingers crossed that the graphite shaft will be in the retail offerings.

Is there enough Xperimental content for your cash?

As with all Scotty Cameron limited-edition putters, I expect these to sell out on Oct. 31 when they are released worldwide. Collectors won’t even blink at the $850 MSRP.

While these are cool versions of the stock putters, I expected them to be a little more Xperimental.

Perhaps the Phantom Black limited-edition line from last summer elevated my expectations to unreasonable heights.

All of the Phantom Black putters were very new takes on the stock designs, some of them to the point that they looked like completely new putters.

Regardless, these are still interesting takes on the stock models.

The Studio Xperimental aesthetic suits my style, the new shaft is a compelling curiosity, and the Fastback 2 with its new plumber’s neck would fit my stroke. For those reasons, I would definitely consider picking up that model.

What are your thoughts? Is there enough cool stuff in either one of these to separate your cash from your wallet.

If so, don’t sleep late this Halloween. These are not going to last the day. By Dia de los Muertos, not even the spirits of our ancestors will know where to find one of these limited editions at retail pricing.

If you want one, I recommend calling your shop today to see if you can reserve one to buy on Friday.
