We’re almost there, almost back in the grind of another college basketball season. Before you know it, there will be a foot of snow on the ground, temperatures will be below zero and another Atlantic Coast Conference game going up and down the court inside Purcell Pavilion.
To get you ready for those nights and get you ready for a Notre Dame season that starts Monday, November 3 at home against LIU Brooklyn, we’ll take an alphabetical player-by-player look at the 2025-26 Notre Dame basketball team over the next 13 weekdays (Wednesday October 15 thru Friday, October 31). Who are these guys? What did they do last year? Where do they fit in this one? And what does third-year head coach Micah Shrewsberry think of them?

We have the answers. Here:
∎ (12) Garrett Sundra
Hometown (High School): Ashburn, Virginia (Paul VI)
Dimensions: 6-foot-11, 230 pounds
Projected position: Starting small forward
Class: Sophomore
Notable number: Sundra erupted for 11 points in 11 minutes against in his third career game (Creighton) in late November. He then scored double figures only once the rest of the way (11 at Clemson).
24-25 stats: Averaged 2.3 points, 1.5 rebounds and 0.3 assists in 9.3 minutes per game over 21 games. Shot .516 percent from the field, .400 from 3 and .818 from the foul line.

25-26 outlook: He’ll have more of a chance to settle into the role of a stretch-four this season after playing a hybrid role last year, when he wasn’t strong enough or old enough to hold his own on either end. Sundra had a totally different look in terms of his body type during the team’s open practice in July. He’s bulked up (from 205 pounds last season) which will allow him to be on the floor more as a sophomore. He also brings something that Shrewsberry craves ― shot-making from distance. Sundra started at the small forward (4) spot in both exhibitions.
Shrews on Sundra: “Garrett’s dove in 100% with what he’s done (in the offseason). He worked his ass off this spring as a player. His body’s changing. He looks like a basketball player, which is the best thing.”
