Sean Brady changes tune on lightweight: I’d have to cut off a limb

by

Sean Brady realizes that a move to lightweight would not physically be possible.

The UFC welterweight contender pondered changing weight classes after suffering a first-round TKO to Michael Morales at UFC 322 in November. The size difference was apparent, which prompted Brady (18-2 MMA, 8-2 UFC) to undergo some testing to see what would be required to make the drop down to 155 pounds.

The results put a halt to his plans.

“The thing was, what I said on there was I was going to do some testing and we’d see where we’d go from there,” Brady said on his “The BradyBagz Show.” “I did some testing, I ain’t going to 155. I did a Dexa scan and I was dieting pretty hard right after my fight, the lowest I got down to was like 190. I was super lean on the Dexa, I was like seven percent body fat. I talked to the guys at the UFC PI, and they were like listen, you’d almost have to cut off a limb to try to make it.”

Prior to the Morales loss, Brady was on the cusp of title contention after three-straight wins over Kelvin Gastelum, Gilbert Burns, and former champion Leon Edwards.

“I’m a bigger 170-pounder for muscle, I’m not small,” Brady continued. “It’s just dimension-wise, but at the end of the day, I’ve beaten tall guys my whole career. There’s no reason for me to change divisions. I didn’t lose to Morales because he was taller than me, I just got caught. That’s that. I’m going to go out there in my next fight and prove I’m still one of the best 170-pounders in the world no matter what.”
