The Penn State Nittany Lions called on a familiar last name to throw a pass during the first half of Saturday’s matchup with Ohio State.

Playing receiver was Liam Clifford, and on an end around, Clifford wound and fired, although incomplete.
Clifford is familiar because his older brother was Sean Clifford, who was a QB at Penn State.
Liam is a WR for the Nittany Lions, around the No. 4 spot on the depth chart.
But on Saturday in Columbus, Liam’s arm had a chance to come in a little handy as the Nittany Lions continue to figure out how to play without Drew Allar.

Even there, he was a wide receiver, rather than following in his brother’s QB footsteps.
His final high school season, Liam had 72 catches for 1,090 yards and 12 TDs.
He was the No. 21 recruit in Ohio, according to ESPN.
Liam enrolled at Penn State in 2021, not playing as a true freshman.
In 2022, he had eight catches, then 13 catches in 2023.
Last season, Liam had 15 grabs for 266 yards and a TD.
And on Saturday, the Penn State coaches figured they’d have a Clifford throw a pass. Why not?
