Shohei Ohtani was scratched from his scheduled start on the mound for the Dodgers on Wednesday in Pittsburgh, though he remained in the lineup as the leadoff hitter and DH. Right-hander Emmet Sheehan will start in Ohtani’s place.
Manager Dave Roberts said that Ohtani felt under the weather on Tuesday and then did not feel great in his side session, but that he feels well enough to hit. He is expected to pitch over the weekend when the Dodgers travel to Baltimore to face the O’s.
Ohtani is coming off his longest start of the season, when he earned his first win as a Dodger by striking out nine and holding the Reds to one run over five innings on Aug. 27. He threw 87 pitches, a season high.
