World number one Harvinder Singh topped recurve men’s qualifying at the Beijing 2025 Asian Para Archery Championships on Wednesday with a score of 663, finishing seven points clear of China’s Gan Jun in second.
The total is both a personal best for Singh and a new competition record. The Indian archer is the reigning Paralympic Champion, having won gold at Paris 2024.
“The long-term goal is to win a medal at the world championships,” Singh said earlier in the week. “I hope I can win my first world medal in Gwangju this time.”
Three Chinese archers also broke championship records in qualification.
Ai Xinliang led the compound men’s field with 703, while Zhang Tianxin and Jiang Linhuan set new bests in the W1 men’s and women’s categories with 667 and 612, respectively.
World number one and defending Asian Champion Rakesh Kumar of India placed fourth in the compound men’s event with 689.
In compound women, Singapore’s Nur Syahidah Alim – who won the title at the previous edition in Bangkok – qualified top with 683, edging a tight field.
Competition continues on Thursday with individual eliminations.
