Sloane Stephens took to Instagram to share that she and her husband Jozy Altidore decided to divorce.
After going to the same school in Florida, Stephens and former American soccer (football) player Altidore started dating around 2016. Three years later, they got engaged. And on January 1, 2022, the two tied the knot.
Now, shortly after celebrating their fourth wedding anniversary, the 2017 US Open champion and the former soccer star decided to go their separate ways. In her message, the former WTA world No. 3 asked for her privacy to be respected.
Stephens: Altidore and I have decided to end our marriage
"Jozy and I have decided to end our marriage. With peace, I am navigating this transition with mutual respect and kindly ask for privacy during this time. Thank you for your love, understanding and continued support," the eight-time WTA champion announced in a message posted on her Instagram Story.
Stephens, 32, and 36-year-old Altidore did not have children together.
Meanwhile, after struggling with an injury for the majority of 2025, Stephens kicked off her 2026 season in time. In the first week of the new season, the American picked up an Auckland first-round loss to Renata Zarazua. That loss put the former world No. 3 on a 13-match losing streak.
However, Stephens' losing drought ended shortly after as the 32-year-old defeated Barbora Palicova in the Australian Open qualifying first round. After beating Palicova, the American also defeated Olivia Gadecki and Lucia Bronzetti to reach the main draw at Melbourne Park before losing to Karolina Pliskova in round one.

Since the Australian Open, the American has been out of action.
However, Stephens is set to play at this week's Merida tournament, where she meets Renata Zarazua in the first round.
