Sooners ranked eighth in USA TODAY Sports Women’s Coaches Poll

The Oklahoma women’s basketball team will head into Southeastern Conference play next calendar year in good shape.

OU held tight at No. 8 in the USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll released Tuesday. The Sooners, who tied at No. 8 with Michigan, have won 11 straight games, last losing to now-No. 4 UCLA back on Nov. 10. Most recently, Oklahoma scored a school-record 126 points in Monday’s win over North Carolina Central.

Nine SEC teams found themselves in the Top 25 with four in the top 10. No. 2 Texas, No. 3 South Carolina, No. 5 LSU and Oklahoma ranked with the Wolverines, Bruins, No. 1 Connecticut, No. 6 Maryland, No. 7 Texas Christian and No. 10 Iowa State.

The Sooners will start SEC play with two straight games against unranked teams before playing No. 15 Ole Miss, No. 11 Kentucky, the Tigers and the Gamecocks. Later in the season, Oklahoma travels to No. 12 Vanderbilt and hosts No. 23 Tennessee. The only ranked SEC team OU won’t play this season is No. 25 Alabama.
