Sophie Cunningham simply can’t catch a break. On Tuesday, the Indiana Fever guard not only learned of her season-ending MCL tear, but she was also fined again by the WNBA as a result of her latest comments on WNBA officiating.
Cunningham had criticized the “annoying” whistle that Dallas Wings guard Paige Bueckers received against the Fever on a recent episode of her “Show Me Something” podcast.

“I’m officially 3-for-3 on being fined by the WNBA,” Cunningham said on her latest podcast episode. “They didn’t like my comments on Paige Bueckers. I didn’t even say anything bad!”
Cunningham said the following about the officiating after the Fever’s 81-80 loss against Bueckers’ Dallas Wings.
“I love Paige to death, don’t get me wrong,” Cunningham said on the Aug. 13 episode of her “Show Me Something” podcast. “I think she’s a hell of a player and would love to play with her one day, but those refs were giving her every frickin’ whistle last night. Like, you literally couldn’t touch her. That’s just so annoying to me.”

Although Cunningham did not specify the monetary penalty this time around, it will add to what is already documented as at least $2,000 in combined fines. Cunningham was fined $500 for a TikTok she posted and $1500 more for comments on her initial episode of the “Show Me Something” podcast.
As for Cunningham, no monetary penalty will scare her away from speaking her mind about the WNBA’s officiating.
