Sophie Cunningham was right — the Indiana Fever do have an injury curse, and it strikes again originally appeared on The Sporting News
Last month, Indiana Fever guard Sophie Cunningham suffered a season-ending knee injury. On her podcast, Show Me Something, Cunningham remarked in the aftermath of her right MCL tear that a “curse” has taken hold of the Fever: Indiana’s players are suffering devastating injuries that have forced the franchise to employ a whopping 17 players in 2025; only two teams have used more.

The injuries and lineup shuffling have dented the Fever’s high hopes for 2025. Indiana entered the year with WNBA championship aspirations after Caitlin Clark surprisingly ended the Fever’s eight-year playoff drought in 2024; instead, head coach Stephanie White is scrambling to put together a league-mandated eight-player rotation each night.

The Fever on Thursday announced another season-ending injury. Forward Chloe Bibby, who has missed the past six games with a left knee injury, will not play again in 2025; she joins Cunningham, Sydney Colson and Aari McDonald as Indiana players who won’t return until 2026.
Bibby, who was signed to a seven-day contract on July 25, played 14 games for the Fever and the Golden State Valkyries, getting her first WNBA experience after playing in Europe and her native Australia. In Indiana, the 27-year-old Bibby shot better than 39 percent from 3-point range and averaged 3.9 points in under 10 minutes per game.

The Fever (21-20) currently holds the #8 seed in the playoffs, and fans continue to hold out hope that Clark — out since July 15 with a groin injury — will make a dramatic return to the court for the final week of the season. But luck, and time, may not be on Indiana’s side.
