Sophie Cunningham’s Angel Reese criticism is actually pretty chill

by

Indiana Fever guard Sophie Cunningham has entered the chat, seemingly calling out Chicago Sky forward Angel Reese over comments she made about the Sky. However, what Cunningham said … is actually pretty chill.

The Fever guard has never been afraid to speak her mind. So, when rumblings started this week about her jumping into the chatter surrounding Reese and the Sky, it might have been easy to assume she went scorched earth. But she did not. She actually explained that the timing and the way in which Reese shared her frustrations about the franchise heading into free agency ― a Chicago Tribune story before the end of the 2025 WNBA season ― wasn’t spectacular.

“When you’re losing, and it’s been a frustrating season, everyone is feeling those emotions,” Cunningham recently said on her podcast Show Me Something. “There’s just some things that you … can’t say. I think one of my biggest things is I’m a very team-first person ― I always put the team before my feelings. I think that should be a standard. You gotta protect your locker room.”

Cunningham went on to argue that Reese can’t say everything she’s feeling because that affects her teammates (something Reese acknowledged when she publicly apologized) and that if she’s feeling that way, it has to stay in the locker room or be taken up with the front office.

That seems fair enough, right? That’s pretty straightforward.

It’s unclear what may happen with Reese and the Sky moving forward, but whatever happens, we wish her the best.
