Rookie outfielder Roman Anthony and the Boston Red Sox are finalizing an eight-year, $130 million contract extension, sources told ESPN’s Jeff Passan on Wednesday.

The deal, which is pending a physical, includes a club option and will keep Anthony under team control through 2034, sources said. It starts in 2026 and includes significant escalators that could take the maximum value of the deal to $230 million, sources said.

Depending on where he finishes in AL Rookie of the Year voting, the extension would buy out three or four years of free agency.

The 21-year-old Anthony, who made his MLB debut on June 9, is batting .283 with two home runs and 19 RBIs this season.

In May, Anthony was ranked as the No. 1 prospect in baseball, according to ESPN’s Kiley McDaniel. The second-round draft pick batted .288 with 10 homers and 29 RBIs in 58 games at Triple-A Worcester this season, including a 497-foot grand slam that went viral.
