South Carolina women’s basketball greats A’ja Wilson and Allisha Gray made WNBA history on Wednesday. The former Gamecocks earned the league’s Western Conference Player of the Month and Eastern Conference Player of the Month awards, respectively.
With her selection, Wilson is bringing home her 13th overall Player of the Month recognition. That is a new, all-time WNBA record. Wilson passed Tina Charles’ previous record of 12.
Gray’s distinction is her third of 2025. She is the first guard in league history to win Player of the Month honors three times in the same season.
Both players also won three Player of the Week honors in their respective conferences during the month of August.
Wilson won her award on the back of averages of 25.5 points, 11.8 rebounds, 2.4 assists, 1.8 blocks, and 1.4 steals per game. She logged eight double-doubles and posted the WNBA’s first-ever 30-point, 20-rebound performance. Remarkably, her Las Vegas Aces squad finished the month of August on a 12-game winning streak to push into the No. 2 seed in the WNBA standings.
On the year, Wilson now owns per-game numbers of 23.4 points, 10.1 rebounds, 3.1 assists, 2.2 blocks, and 1.6 steals. She has also played her way back into the races for league MVP and WNBA Defensive Player of the Year. The three-time MVP could challenge for a record fourth Most Valuable Player honor.
For Gray, last month saw her average 19.4 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 2.9 assists per game. In a stark improvement from last year, she has guided the Atlanta Dream to the No. 3 seed in the current WNBA Playoff standings. The Dream went 9-3 in August, in large part, because of Gray’s efforts.
The 2025 season has been a career-best for Gray. She is averaging 18.6 points, 5.4 rebounds, 3.6 assists, and 1.1 steals this year. She also has hit 37.8% of her 3-point jumpers and 80% of her free throw attempts.
