South Florida DL commit Demetrius Geathers ready for new challenge at USF with new staff

by

MIAMI, Fla. β€” West Boca dominated West Broward 31-0 earlier in the month to win back-to-back state titles. One of the big reasons the Bulls were able to achieve this feat was the play of three-star defensive lineman Demetrius Geathers.

β€œI’m blessed for the opportunity,” Geathers said after the game. β€œThis team came out here and dominated all four quarters. Offense came out here and scored quickly and early. The defense came out and stopped the run and pass. This is what we do, this is West Boca football.”

The USF signee recorded two tackles (one solo), a sack, a forced fumble, and a fumble recovery in the state championship game.

β€œThis is what our head coach and our defensive coordinator preach. We’ve got to get stops and keep everybody out of the end zone. That’s what we’ve been doing all year. I feel like this is the best defense in the state and one of the best in the country. I feel like we proved that today.”

Geathers, measuring at 6-foot-3 and 210 pounds credits the West Boca program with helping him become a coveted recruit.

β€œThey developed me a lot. I came in as a scrawny sophomore at 155 pounds. I came in, and they definitely put me in the weight room. I’m weighing in at 210 now. They developed me as a pass rusher early on. I definitely got better this year from last year as a run stuffer. West Boca is definitely a place to develop your skills and for you to be the best man you can be.”

The talented edge committed to USF in November of 2024 but remained loyal to the program despite several coaching staff changes, including former Ohio State offensive coordinator Brian Hartline replacing Alex Golesh as head coach.

β€œI’m feeling great. We have a new head coach, Brian Hartline. I can’t wait to dominate under him. We got a new defensive coordinator. I can’t wait to go out there and dominate and showcase my abilities and show what I can do early as a freshman.”

Hartline, new defensive coordinator Josh Aldridge, and defensive line coach Kevin Patrick reached out to Geathers the night before the state title game.

β€œThey reached out to me and told me to go out there and dominate and show off for Bulls nation. I felt like I did that today.”

Geathers truly believes in the new coaching staff and is excited to continue the success in Tampa.

β€œIt still feels like home. It still feels like a family. Me and Coach Hartline, we talked over these last couple of weeks, and he told me what it is. He kept it a hundred with me, and I trust in his process and in the ability of Bulls Nation to keep going and remain successful.”
