One day after an overtime victory in the MIAA/NSIC Challenge over Augustana University, Missouri Southern State University’s women’s basketball team just hadn’t had enough of intense basketball in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
The Lions fell in a tight one on Saturday night to the University of Mary in a final score of 76-73.

MSSU held a 35-32 advantage at halftime but really struggled to put the ball in the basket with just 11 points during the second 10-minute stanza. It shot just 2 for 8 in the period and got most of its points on 6-of-8 shooting at the free throw line.
In the third, the University of Mary caused trouble for the Lions’ defense, shooting over 70% (10 of 14) from the field and making 5 of 8 3-pointers on the way to a 27-point quarter.
That performance gave the Marauders a 59-55 lead heading into the fourth.
MSSU got the score tied at 67 on a Makenna Yokley layup with 6:17 to play. It took the lead on a Delaney Roller 3-pointer, making the score 70-69.

The Maruauders tied the game with a free throw and then MSSU got it back with one free shot of its own. But, Bergen Kinnebrew put the team from the Northern Sky Conference up for good with a layup to make it 72-71 with 3:39 to play.
There were three straight turnovers before a foul allowed the Marauders to go ahead by 3 points at the 2:19-mark.
The Lions missed a couple layups on consecutive possessions before making good on the next one by Yokley to make it 74-73 with just over a minute remaining.
With a chance to take the lead, Ashlyn Alloway missed an inside shot and then Kinnebrew made good on two free shots to make it 76-73 with 9 seconds left.

Roller’s last-second 3-pointer was no good.
Alloway led the Lions with 26 points and grabbed 7 rebounds. After a double-double in the opener on Friday, she’s now averaging 24.5 points per game and 11 rebounds.
MSSU’s sophomore guard from Diamond High School, Grace Frazier, scored 19 in the game to match her total from Friday. Nariah Clay added 11 for the Lions on Saturday.
The University of Mary got 32 from Kinnebrew, who shot 13 of 14 on free throws. Emily Jaenke added 22 off the bench.
