Sparks announce plans to open practice facility in 2027

by

On Wednesday, the Sparks announced plans to build their own state-of-the-art practice facility set to open before the start of the 2027 WNBA season.

Once it’s open, they’ll have a practice location of their own in El Segundo, the same city where the Lakers and the Chargers practice.

This will be a 55,000-square-foot facility and with it costing $150-million to build, it will be one of the largest investments ever made for a WNBA practice facility.

While the Sparks are one of the WNBA’s legacy franchises, they have fallen behind the times regarding their facilities. Last season, they practiced at JR286, a facility located in Torrance, California, and the year before that, they used gyms inside El Camino College.

The Sparks having their own practice facility is a huge step forward for the team and will certainly be considered a plus for current players and free agents considering where they want to play.

Los Angeles announced plans for a state-of-the-art facility back in 2024, when they hired Transwestern to help find the location and build the new practice space.

Now, the location of El Segundo is known, and the plan has been solidified to open it for the 2027 WNBA season.

In the Sparks’ PR release, Eric Holoman, Managing Partner and Governor of Sparks, issued a statement regarding the new facilities.

“We’re building a place where Sparks players can be at their best on and off the court,” said Eric Holoman, Managing Partner and Governor of the Los Angeles Sparks. “From cutting-edge training and recovery spaces to family and community areas, every corner of this facility was designed with them at the center. It reflects our commitment to our team, our fans, and the city of Los Angeles, and sets a new standard for what a professional sports organization can provide for its athletes.”

The new facilities will feature two WNBA regulation basketball courts, an outdoor spa pool for recovery and prehab/rehab, hydrotherapy spa suites and other amenities.

A lot of work is needed to hit the 2027 date, but with investment and location confirmed, this is great news for the Sparks, their fans and the WNBA as a whole.
