Is Michigan State basketball a preseason top 25 team? A pair of well-known college basketball media personalities at On3 don’t think so…

Jeff Goodman and Rob Dauster of The Field of 68 (who is now under the wing of On3) released their joint preseason top 25 rankings for the upcoming college basketball season, and well, they don’t have the Spartans in the mix. Michigan State was left off the their preseason top 25 rankings released on Monday.

Michigan State is the defending Big Ten champions and returns a number of key contributors from last year’s very successful squad. Certainly, a dropoff is expected from last year unless we see someone like Coen Carr, Jaxon Kohler and Jeremy Fears Jr. ascend to an elite level. But this still seems like a top 25 team — and many in the college basketball industry would agree with that statement too.

As far as who did make On3’s preseason top 25, there were five teams from the Big Ten that cracked the list: Purdue (No. 1), Michigan (No. 10), UCLA (No. 13), Illinois (No. 19) and Wisconsin (No. 21). A few other notable teams on the Spartans’ non-conference slate this season that cracked the preseason top 25 rankings are Duke (No. 5), Kentucky (No. 7), Arkansas (No. 12) and North Carolina (No. 25). The Spartans will also face UConn (No. 4) in an exhibition game this year.
